The Lido Theater

The Lido Theater feels like a neighborhood secret that refuses to behave like a chain. It is a single-screen, boutique auditorium with velvet-red seats that sink you into the film. I saw The Princess Bride there on a cool February night; laughter and applause came without pretense. They also book small concerts. A four-piece string quartet played Metallica and made the place sound cathedral-big and gloriously intimate. Concessions are disarmingly simple: one size popcorn, one size drink, fair prices that do not gouge the evening. The projection and sound have been modernized, so the nostalgia has teeth. Staff are friendly, parking is easy, and the theater sits a short walk from restaurants in Lido Village.
