Hard Rock Cafe at Universal CityWalk is a loud, gleeful monument to rock excess and tourist spectacle. Upstairs feels like a quieter museum, full of iconic instruments including a Hendrix guitar and other signed ephemera you can stroll past between courses. It’s equal parts family-friendly comfort food and live-music hangout: massive burgers, shareable desserts and a menu with gluten-free and vegan options that helps keep everyone at the table happy. Locals drift in for concert nights and sports viewing, while park-weary visitors collapse into booths after a day at the parks. Service can swing from breezy to showmanlike, servers often turning birthdays into small productions. Book ahead for prime times, go upstairs if you want a breather, and accept that this is less fine dining and more unabashed rock tourism done very, very well.
